It was Roberto Teran’s world on Wednesday, July 15, at the kickoff of the 2026 HITS Hudson Valley Jumping Tour™. The hugely popular three-week series is highlighted by a weekly CSI3* division, as well as a World Champion Hunter Rider (WCHR) designation during the second week. Taking back-to-back wins in the opening day’s two featured show jumping events, the Colombian rider set himself up comfortably for an exciting week ahead as the iconic Saugerties, New York, venue gears up to host another installation of epic hunter, jumper, and equitation competition. With a stacked string of horses at the ready, Teran first clocked in the fastest time in the $5,000 Adequan Open Welcome Stake, stopping the clock in a blazing 36.737 seconds with Check Me Out, Victoria Huertematte’s 10-year-old Mecklenburg gelding (Chacoon Blue x Conthargos). However, it was his performance aboard DSP Callas in the $31,020 Röwer & Rüb CSI3* Jumper Classic that earned him the day’s lion’s share of prize money.

The $31,020 Röwer & Rüb CSI3* Jumper Classic featured an opening track designed by FEI Level 4 course designer Anderson Lima (MEX) for a total of 37 horse-and-rider combinations and eight nations represented in the field. Teran brought forward two mounts for the class, but proved unbeatable even by himself after entering 13th in the order and posting a fault-free effort in an efficient 35.260 seconds with DSP Callas.

“Any course that Anderson [Lima] builds is very comfortable for the horse and rider — very technical, but comfortable, and makes sense because he is a great course designer,” explained Teran. “[DSP] Callas’s experience really came in to play today because, truthfully, the rollbacks are not the easiest for her, but she did them great, and there were a few gallops where it helped that she has a really big stride.”

While the 14-year-old Dutch Sporthorse mare (Casskeni II x Levistano) may have temporarily stepped out of the spotlight, Teran feels she is on her way to making an even bigger and better comeback.

“I’ve had her for four years and she has been with me all over the world,” he detailed. “We went to Europe for a while — we did Aachen, La Baule, Dinard — all the big shows. She had to have a little break, and then she came back last year to do several five-stars in December. She has been very consistent with clear rounds in the first round, but we have recently been working a lot in the speed phases because sometimes she gets a little tense in the jump-off. It looks like it’s working!”

With no lack of impressive talent to follow, the lead came close to changing hands several times before ultimately settling steadily with Teran at the class’s completion. Never one to be far off from a win, Mark Bluman (ISR) piloted Ubiluc, the Over The Top Stables LLC’s 14-year-old Mecklenburg gelding (Ubiko x Lucian), into the runner-up position with a time of 35.910 seconds. Young American professional Caitlyn Connors, who also currently bases with Teran, rounded out the top three on Quinto de Obernai, Breakaway Farm’s 11-year-old Oldenburg gelding (Quantum x Caretino).

The class proved to be a success for Teran in more ways than just the victory, as many of his team also earned finishes in the top ten.

“We have a bunch of clients here from Caitlyn [Connors] to Vicky [Huertematte] and Juan Pablo [Betancourt], and I’m very good friends with the Blumans and many people here,” he enthused.  “The camaraderie just makes it a blast; it feels like home, and so HITS Hudson Valley is part of our summer tour every year now.”
