Spectators gathered at the Douglas Elliman Grand Prix Stadium at HITS Chicago in Wayne, Illinois, on Saturday, May 11, 2024, for the highlight of the first week of the Lamplight Spring Classic Series, the $24,500 Voltaire Grand Prix. Returning to her home turf, Lisa Goldman-Smolen of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois, took home the blue ribbon with Romeo B, and also placed second aboard Narcotique B. Stephen Foran piloted Colour Your Day to the third-place prize.
“This is actually Romeo B’s first grand prix,” enthused Goldman-Smolen after her win. “He’s a good size. He’s not huge; he’s not small; he’s just perfect. He has great balance, a great canter, a natural jump, and he loves his job.”
The inviting first-round track was comprised of 12 obstacles that included a triple and double combination. Six duos jumped clear to advanced to the tie-breaking jump-off, where Goldman-Smolen produced two quick and clear rounds with her mounts to claim the top two spots.
Goldman-Smolen expressed her excitement to be back at HITS Chicago, stating, “It feels good to, essentially, be back home. I love it here so much. The staff is wonderful and has been really making these showgrounds so beautiful.”
Jumper competition will continue on Sunday, May 12, 2024 with the $24,500 Horseflight Jumper Classic debuting as the day’s main event. For full results please visit www.showmanagementsystem.com.
