Spectators gathered at the Douglas Elliman Stadium for the first grand prix of the Lamplight Spring Classic Series. Lisa Goldman-Smolen victoriously returned to her home turf at HITS Chicago to capture the $24,500 Voltaire Grand Prix Saturday during the Lamplight Spring Classic I. With multiple entries in Saturday’s main event, the talented professional from Hawthorn Woods took home the blue ribbon with Romeo B, finishing with a double-clear and clocking in from the jump-off at 29.568 seconds. She then went on to place second aboard Narcotique B with a double-clear effort and a jump-off time of 29.725 seconds. Stephen Foran piloted Colour Your Day to the third-place prize with a double-clear effort.

“This is actually Romeo B’s first grand prix,” enthused Smolen after her win. “He’s a good size. He’s not huge; he’s not small; he’s just perfect! He has great balance, a great canter, a natural jump, and he loves his job.”

The stadium at Lamplight Equestrian Center featured an inviting first-round track comprised of 12 obstacles that included a triple and double combination. Six advanced to the tiebreaker, where Smolen produced two quick and clear rounds to claim the top two spots.
