A Look Back at Featured Classes and Dominating Performances of the Ocala Winter Festival!

Sharn Wordley takes home back-to-back wins at HITS Ocala V!


We’ve crossed the mid-point of the HITS Ocala Winter Circuit with the end of Week V and what a week it was! Trainers, riders and spectators were treated to a week of compelling performances, big purses and new events, including the east coast debut of the Marshall & Sterling Team Challenge. The week concluded with our biggest event so far, the $100,000 Ocala Electric Utility Grand Prix presented by Crum & Forster Insurance and the parade of the Kastel Denmark Mid-Circuit Award winners!

Wednesday kicked off with the $5,000 Johnson Horse Transportation. Lisa Goldman-Smolen claimed top honors aboard her very own AS DI SOGRAND. The pair took home the blue ribbon in a time of 41.671. 

  • 2nd Place: Goldman-Smolen & NIKE (47.857)
  • 3rd Place: David Raposa & MIC JAGGER (42.071)

Sharn Wordley began an impressive week of performances when he came out victorious with a 1-2 finish in the $50,000 SmartPak Grand Prix. His first place finish was aboard CASPER, crossing the timers in 47.388. 

  • 2nd Place: Wordley & BARNETTA (48.578) 
  • 3rd Place: Dr. Fernando Cardenas & QUINCY TOO (49.173)

Goldman-Smolen did it again in the $10,000 KindredBio Open Prix! This time her winning round was aboard HINDSIGHT, capturing a time of 28.543 in the jump off. 

  • 2nd Place: Goldman-Smolen & BENGTSSON VDL (28.936) 
  • 3rd Place: David Jennings & GRACIEUX VAN SEVEN OAKS  (29.081)

The $10,000 AIG 1.35m Classic brought some tough competition. Once again Goldman-Smolen captured top honors, crossing the finish on BENGTSSON VDL with a time of 40.31. 

  • 2nd Place: Matthias Hollberg & VANITA (41.309)
  • 3rd Place: Rachel Schnurr & UMBRELLA TERWILGEN Z (41.711)

The jump off in in the $2,500 Pyranha Junior 1.25m Jumper Classic was a close finish, but Abigail Lockwood and METRO LASS would bring home the blue ribbon.

  • Melissa Strawser and LUMINOUS were the winners of the $2,500 Pyranha A-O/Am 1.25m Jumper Classic this week.  
  • Adelaide Toensing aboard her own, BLUE, were the winners of the $5,000 Summit Joint Performance Jr/A-O/Am 1.35m Jumper Classic.

For the second week in a row Bryn Sadler claimed the win in the $7,500 U-Dump Jr/A-O/Am 1.45m Jumper Classic. This week she rode CEZARRO across the timers for the first place finish.  

 
Week V concluded with the $100,000 Ocala Electric Utility Grand Prix presented by Crum & Forster. The Grand Prix Stadium hosted a field of 47 to see which team would come out on top. In the end Wordley and CASPER would take home top honors, winning their second Grand Prix of the week in an incredible time of 42.630.
  • 2nd Place: Harold Chopping & FANTOM (45.075) 
  • 3rd Place: Cardenas & QUINCY CAR (46.195)
The east coast debut of the new Marshall & Sterling Jumper team Challenge kicked off on Friday. The team challenge is the first step in qualifying for the finals at the Marshall & Sterling Indoor Championship, which will be held October 23-28, at the Great New York State Fair Expo Center in Syracuse, New York. 

Teams of three battled it out over the course of two days to determine who would be the inaugural winner of this debut class. 

Team "Full Send" which consisted of Bailey Schram riding HIGH SOCIETY, Brooke English on SIR CHARLES, and Sarah Alderman aboard ARAMON. The team rode away with the blue ribbon anbd the champion title!
 
 
The $1,500 Platinum Performance Hunter Prix was a favorite for spectators to watch this week with a field of 25 riders and close scores. Taking home the first place finish was Kate Phillips. Phillips rode CHINO to a first round score of 85, followed by a second round score of 85 to take the win with a grand total of 170.
  • 2nd Place: Sarah Hyde & CHARLESTON Z (168)
  • 3rd Place: Lily Rusis & SET SAIL (159)
The $5,000 Devocoux Hunter Prix made its way back into the Stadium and taking home the win by half of a point was Meg Graham! She was aboard KETTERLE to earn a 86 in round one, and an 83.5 in round two to win with a combined score of a 169.5.
  • 2nd Place: Kris Killiam & LUCERO (169)
  • 3rd Place: Jennifer Alfano & ENZO W(166)
