Brooke Tegtmeyer and Ervin Top USEF Hunter Seat Medal

Wayne, Ill. – May 22, 2022 – Top junior riders gathered at the Main Hunter Ring on Sunday afternoon during Lamplight Spring Classic II to showcase their equitation skills in the USEF Hunter Seat Medal. Narrowed down to four riders for the final test, it was Brooke Tegtmeyer and Ervin who led from start to finish to earn the top prize during the HITS Chicago Series.

Following the Medal’s first round, the top four equitation riders returned for an in-ring test in reverse order of standing to help determine the winner of the class. For the test, riders were asked to canter directly out of line and over fence one, walk at the end of the ring, then pick up the counter canter to jump fence eight, and finish by returning to the line.

“With that simple of a test you just need to make sure that it’s smooth,” said Tegtmeyer. She and Ervin were already sitting in the top position heading into the test, and her consistent pace, smooth transitions, and well-executed counter canter to the last jump helped cement her top placing for the USEF Hunt Seat Medal.

Maggie Bresch, Taylor Kogen and Elianna Kirson also successfully navigated the first round. With eight jumps in the first round that featured several long approaches and a tight rollback after the second fence, the riders were challenged to maintain their consistency throughout the entirety of the course. Bresch, Kogen and Kirson all remained in the standings they held going into the test, placing second, third, and fourth, respectively, while Tegtmeyer took home the blue ribbon.

Ervin is a new addition to Tegtmeyer’s barn and she has only been riding him for a week. Despite their short time together Tegtmeyer felt confident with her new partner. “My main goal was just to be smooth and put in the best trip that I could,” she explained. “That’s always my number one goal when doing a course.”

Tegtmeyer only lives around five minutes from the showgrounds, so the HITS Chicago Series at Lamplight is one of her favorite horse shows. “The grounds are beautiful, and everything is well set. It’s great!” concluded Tegtmeyer. With a thrilling start to Tegtmeyer’s show season, she is excited about her bright future with Ervin, and their newly found partnership.

One more week of hunter action remains as part of the Lamplight Spring Classic Series at Lamplight Equestrian Center during the HITS Chicago Series, which runs through September at the world-class facility. The Lamplight Spring Classic III will feature another $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby, as well as the $1,000 USHJA Green Hunter Incentive, the $750 USHJA Green Challenge, and the Lamplight 2’6” Hunter Derby.
