Codi Harrison and Katholt’s Bossco Go From U25 Champion to Grand Prix National Champion

Wayne, Ill. – August 26, 2023 – Five years ago, Codi Harrison and Katholt’s Bossco took home the USEF Young Adult ‘Brentina Cup’ Dressage National Championship during the U.S. Festival of Champions at HITS’ Lamplight Equestrian Center. Since purchasing the Danish Warmblood gelding from Denmark in 2015, Harrison has moved up the levels with him from Young Riders to the U25 Grand Prix, and most recently the Grand Prix.

On Saturday, Aug. 26, the pair topped the leaderboard in the prestigious Neue Schule/USEF Grand Prix Dressage National Championship with a total score of 71.898%. The total is made of scores from three different classes: the Grand Prix (72.477%), the Grand Prix Special (69.829%) and the Grand Prix Freestyle (75.675%)

“I found Bossco eight years ago and he was my Young Riders horse,” Harrison said. “We struggled through that together. I was lucky to have a trainer who did not want me to buy a made horse. She would not make him for me but taught me how to create a Grand Prix horse. Bossco and I learned together and we did our first Grand Prix together. It’s so fun to be back this year more secure in our Grand Prix moments. When I came to do the Brentina Cup, we were just learning piaffe. It’s exciting to be more comfortable at the level. He knows his job!”

“The freestyle is my favorite. It’s rock themed and the music lights him up,” Harrison continued. “The choreography highlights his strengths like the piaffe and passage. I always love the extended canter to piaffe. I don’t always nail it but today we did a pretty good job. He was great!”

Lehua Custer and F.J. Ramzes won Saturday’s Grand Prix Freestyle with a 76.35%, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Harrison’s lead from earlier this week. Custer earned the reserve championship with a total of 70.536% and Katie Duerrhammer on Paxton rounded out the top three with a total of 70.124%
