Exciting Competition Returns to HITS Culpeper at Showday National

The second week of competition for the HITS Culpeper Summer Series is a wrap at HITS Commonwealth Park with Hunter, Jumper and Equitation classes in the spotlight throughout the week. Riders were excited to be back in the show ring for a summer full of fun in the 'Heart of Virginia's Horse Country'. Showday National was host to USEF-Rated National 4* Hunter/Jumper competition that featured a $20,000 HITS Open Prix and $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby. Read on for a recap of the champions!

The first featured Jumper class of the week on Wednesday was the $5,000 HITS Open Welcome where Andrew Ross led the way aboard CORNET'S COBALT. With the top three finishers less than two seconds apart, Ross led the way with a clean, careful round in 39.57. 

2nd Place: Tamara Morse & RAVENNA ADELHEID Z [4-Faults, 38.02]
3rd Place: Tracy Magness & CHOPIN DU CHATEAU HOLLOGNE Z [4-Faults, 38.17]

Claiming top honors in the $10,000 HITS Open Prix was Magness aboard CHOPIN DU CHATEAU HOLLOGNE Z. Magness was one of three zero-fault finishes over the shortened course, all within fractions of a second. Her quick time of 37.62 put her at the top of the podium in Friday's featured class after a strong showing on Wednesday.

2nd Place: Marylisa Leffler & ZA ZA Z [37.81]
3rd Place: Jaime Gibson & IBALIA [38.82]

Wrapping up the week with a first place finish in the $20,000 HITS Open Prix on Sunday was Leffler and ZA ZA Z. After finishing second in Friday's $10,000 Open Prix, Leffler topped the field on the final day with the only zero-fault round in the jump-off in a speedy 41.498.

Hunters competed for the top prize in the $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby in the Main Hunter Ring on Saturday afternoon. The award for first place went to Gibson aboard VALERIAN with the highest score across the two rounds. Earning an impressive score of 90 in the first round and an 88 in the second round, Gibson claimed the winner's trophy with a total score of 178.

3rd Place: Alex Johnson & ORIGAMI [174]

In Saturday's $1,000 Platinum Performance Hunter Prix, Paige Kennedy claimed the blue ribbon aboard ST. STEPHEN. Completing two rounds with scores of 62 and 74, Kennedy earned a total of 136 to secure the first place prize.
