Make Your Preparations for the Vermont Summer Festival

East Dorset, VT – June 14, 2022 – With the Vermont Summer Festival right around the corner, we want to ensure exhibitors and horses are prepared with the required equine health documents upon arrival. This includes Vaccination Records, Coggins, Veterinarian-issued Health Certificates and the HITS Declaration form, as required by HITS, USEF, and the state of Vermont. Read on for more details on these required documents. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you soon!

HITS and USEF Horse Health Requirements

Protecting the health of your horse and other horses at all HITS shows is of the utmost importance. For the Vermont Summer Festival, HITS will continue to follow its standard horse health requirements which include the following documents. These documents must be on file in the horse show office before back numbers will be issued.

1. Proof of Vaccination
All horses competing at a USEF horse show must present proof of vaccination within 6 months for Equine Influenza EIV (Flu) and Rhinopneumonitis EHV-1 and EHV-4 (Rhino) via a signed statement from the attending veterinarian.

2. Event Participation Declaration
This is a HITS-specific Health form to be completed and signed by the owner/agent/trainer verifying the horse has been healthy with no sign of infectious disease or fever within 72 hours (3 days) of arrival.

State of Vermont Horse Health Requirements

In addition to the HITS and USEF requirements above, all horses attending the Vermont Summer Festival must adhere to the State of Vermont Veterinary Requirements, which include the following documents. These documents must be on file in the horse show office before back numbers will be issued, and should be kept in an easily accessible spot for presentation to State/Local Veterinarians during the event upon request.

1. Negative Coggins
All horses entering into the state of Vermont from another state must be accompanied by a negative Coggins test for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) within 12 months of entry.

2. Health Certificate
All horses entering into the state of Vermont from another state must be accompanied by a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection completed by the attending veterinarian dated within 30 days of arrival.

Note: Horses traveling to the Vermont Summer Festival directly from permanent residences within the state of Vermont are not subject to these requirements.
