View Equestrian Artist Lesley Humphrey’s ‘Time to Shine’ on HITS Saugerties Show Program Cover

SAUGERTIES, New York (June 7, 2015) – Pick up a copy of the Saugerties 2015 HITS-on-the-Hudson Official Show Program to view artist Lesley Humphrey’s enchanting, “Time to Shine,” an oil-on-panel painting that aptly captures the grace, beauty and movement of the equine athlete.

“I believe that my lifelong love affair with the horse began with my first breath, and when I wasn’t riding them or dreaming about them, I was drawing them,” said Humphrey, in a statement about her art. “I have driven ponies, rode to hounds, competed in three-day eventing, and even galloped racehorses. Every encounter informs my art. The nature, the fear, the triumph, the love, the mystery, the resolve, the training, the stories of my heart, all can be found in the visual tapestries that are my life, in painting.”

Among other notable achievements, Humphrey was named the official 2011 Kentucky Derby Artist, and in 2006, after painting the Grenadier Guards’ Brigadier General in the United Kingdom, was presented to Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace during a birthday parade for the Queen.

“Humphrey’s dynamic painting was the top choice among HITS staffers for the cover of this year’s Saugerties show program,” said HITS Art Director Leslie Phillips. “We’re very pleased with the work, and also the field of candidates who submitted many excellent choices for this year’s cover.”

Each year, HITS accepts submissions by artists for its HITS Thermal Desert Circuit, HITS Ocala Winter Circuit, and HITS Saugerties Series program covers.
