Jonathan McCrea and Special Lux Win $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix at HITS-on-the-Hudson V
Margie Engle Claims Second and Third on Bockmanns Landing and Indigo
SAUGERTIES, New York (July 25, 2015): Jonathan McCrea and Special Lux went first in the 16-horse jump-off and held onto the winning time throughout to claim victory in the $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix on Friday.
McCrea, of East Windsor, Connecticut, and Special Lux, owned by his in-laws, Candy and Larry Tribble of Windsor Show Stables, Inc., finished the shortened course in 41.997 seconds and were one of only three entries to do so without faults. Margie Engle, of Wellington, Florida, claimed the other two clean rounds on Bockmanns Lazio, placing second in 47.828, and Indigo, in 48.213, for third. Elm Rock LLC owns Bockmanns Lazio and Gladewinds Farm Inc. owns Indigo.
McCrea said this is Special Lux’s first Grand Prix since the gelding was injured a year ago. “It’s been a long road back. He jumped two Nations Cups for America last year,” McCrea said.
But the first time back seemed to be a charm. “I’m lucky with that horse,” said McCrea, who is originally from Ireland, but now competes for the United States. “He’s always been super-fast. I know him well, even though he’s been off him for a while. He makes my life easy.”

“That was really exciting,” said Chapot. “I thought I was pretty fast with my first horse (Shooting Star). I was impressed when my second one (Zealous) topped it. To have my last (Bradberry) come in on top was pretty great. He’s a speed demon!”
