Roberto Teran Rides EASTER to Victory in the $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Prix at HITS-on-the-Hudson IV

Saugerties, NY – July 24, 2017 – Roberto Teran of Colombia, South America rode EASTER, an 8-year-old mare, to win the $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Prix, on Saturday, July 22nd at HITS-on-the-Hudson IV. 

In the two-round Hunter Prix, EASTER’s scope and rhythm earned a score of 83 in the first-round, which placed her third behind GALAN and Amber Henter who scored an 85, and one-point shy of CARERO and Cassandra Kahle who scored an 84. In the second-round, Course Designer Rian Beals placed a single jump out on the peak of the sandy path which the winds around the hill at the end of the Outside Course. EASTER traversed the undulating landscape with the precision of a metronome, and Teran showcased EASTER’s handiness every step of the way. The beautiful bay mare answered the challenges of the course with precision and grace earning the highest score in round two of 86 to secure the win with a total of 169. GALAN’s second-round score of 83 placed him in second with a total of 168, and CARERO’s score of 82 maintained third place with an overall score of 166.

Teran and EASTER have only been together for a few months, and this marked their first win in a Hunter Prix. When asked how they came together so quickly for such a big win, Teran remarked, “It is the job of the professional to try and figure out the horse as quickly as possible.” Teran shared his appreciation of EASTER’s talent. “She has a great attitude. Her jump is beautiful, and she is super brave. She handles the different types of obstacles, perfectly. EASTER was just a star today.” Then, back in the stable, he added, “EASTER has a great attitude. She is very easy to handle, is very friendly, and she is a very easy keeper.”

Teran has big plans for EASTER. “Next,” he said, “I will try to qualify EASTER for the [$500,000 Diamond Mills Hunter Prix] Final, then when I get there – I will try to win it!”
