Adrienne Dixon Wins CPHA Foundation WCE Medal Final at National Sunshine Series Week II

Thermal, CA (November 12, 2014): Adrienne Dixon is a familiar face at the CPHA Foundation WCE Medal Finals, having placed second in the class since 2012, however, this year that all changed. Dixon and Ramazzotti 54 battled it out in a two-day, three-round competition highlighting the West Coast’s most decorated amateurs and juniors, proving that perseverance pays off.

Dixon topped the leaderboard after Friday’s first round scoring a 95 average with Hadley Boyd and Dream Catcher in a close second riding to an 89.5 average. A game of cat-and-mouse ensued in Round 2 when Boyd came out on top with a 91 average and Dixon trailing more than five points. Twenty-eight competitors turned into ten qualifiers for the Final Round, leaving Dixon feeling confident in her companion and herself.

Made possible by the CPHA Foundation, the WCE Medal Finals provides a unique opportunity for advanced jumper equitation riders to showcase their skills in a competitive environment. Three judges stationed at various positions around the show ring watch every stride and jump as these young riders glide around the ring looking to lead the victory gallop.

New this year, the CPHA added a third judge, Linda Allen, who assigned proficiency points (0-5) on the rider’s effectiveness as a show jumping rider. The other two officials judged exclusively using the current rules and standards of the USEF equitation division.

Defined as a jumper equitation class, complete with a course designed using 3’7” jumper fences, the intention of the WCE Medal Final is to prepare and nurture young riders for the competitive jumper show ring. Since the CPHA took over the event in 2002, it has evolved from a 3’6” equitation class to a class where time, faults, effectiveness and style of riding are all evaluated.

“Adrienne is the perfect contender for this class,” said Jeni Brown, President of the CPHA. “The setting allowed her to show off an efficient, clean ride and her beautiful style of riding.”

Dixon, who finished with an overall average score of 91.5, received a saddle, compliments of Beval Saddlery, a cooler courtesy of DaMoors Feed and Tack, Der Dau Boots and Equifit Boots, a bonnet and half pad.
