OCALA, FL (February 1, 2010)—Twice is nice! The queen of the HITS Ocala Pre-Circuit is none other than New Jersey Native Callan Solem, who rode Allison to victory in the $25,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, for the second week in a row.
"I’m so glad she’s [Allison] back!" said Solem, who had doubts earlier this season that Allison would be ready for the Grand Prix circuit. "It was a technical course, but really nice for the beginning of the season."
Solem was joined by 28 others riders who were looking to take home the blue. After a clean first round, Solem was last of ten to show in the jump-off, taking home the win and a check for $7,500 in a fast 37.768 seconds.
Solem also placed third on VDL Torlando and ninth on Mianta. However, she saved her best for last, defeating veterans Aaron Vale on Noble Carthargo and Tracy Magness on Tarco Van Ter Moude, who placed sixth and seventh, respectively.
Placing second in the group was Sergio Campos from Ocala, Florida on Callaway 4 with a clean jump-off in 38.763 seconds.
"Callaway was really fast today!" said Sergio Campos, who was leading the class as Solem dared her final trip. This was only Campos’ second week riding Callaway 4, a six year-old Old Holsteiner Stallion, who he plans to keep showing throughout the entire Ocala circuit.
As the AA-rated circuit gets closer, all eyes will be on Solem and Allison to see if they can continue their Grand Prix winning streak. So far the duo have two Grand Prix classes in the books and have amassed $15,000 in prize money towards qualifying for the Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix, which will be held on September 12 at HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, New York.
"She [Allison] thinks she’s ten again," laughed Solem, as the 18 year-old Allison proved she still had plenty left in the tank. "My mom came down from Atlanta, so it was great that she got to see me win," said Solem, who was on top of the world after the victory.
