CULPEPER, VA (October 3, 2007)— HITS awarded the SHALANNO Style of Riding Award to
Sarah Chovnick (Middleburg, VA) on Sunday, September 30, at the USGPL Finals at HITS Culpeper.
The SHALANNO Style of Riding Award Perpetual Trophy is presented to the Junior Jumper rider who best exemplifies the American style of equitation as modeled by Olympic medalists Joe Fargis, Conrad Homfeld, and George Morris. The award recipient must have the respectful, dignified, courteous and workmanlike manner of a true sportsman.
"It really took me by surprise when I won the award," said Chovnick. "It's a great honor and I am thrilled that all of my hard work was recognized."
"She had a lot of success throughout the season in Culpeper, in both the Low and
High Jr/A-O Classics, " said HITS' Kristen Vale. "Many of us at HITS have watched her throughout her
riding career, from Pony Hunters to the High Jr/A-O Jumpers, and it is nice
to see how she has developed into a lovely rider through the years."
Chovnick is 16 and trains under the watchful eye of trainer Ginny Edwards at Hidden Hollow Farm in Upperville, Virginia. Chovnick has been riding with Edwards for about six years. "It has been tremendously rewarding watching her develop right in front of my eyes," said Edwards. "Her best attribute is that she is great under pressure. From walking the course, to swapping rides between her two horses, she does everything right."
When not in the ring, Chovnick enjoys shopping, going to concerts and hanging out with her friends. "Horse shows kind of take over my life," she joked. "I am a big classic rock fan so I try to make it to as many concerts as possible."
Chovnick looks forward to continuing her success next season at HITS Culpeper when show jumping returns to Commonwealth park on April 16 for the start of the Commonwealth National horse show.
