SAUGERTIES, NY (August 23, 2007)-HITS is preparing for the final week of the summer show season at its state-of-the-art facility in Saugerties, New York. Week VII of the HITS-on-the-Hudson show series will begin on Wednesday, September 5 and run through Sunday, September 9.
Highlighting the week are a pair of qualifying Grand Prix classes for the $100,000 USGPL Invitational Grand Prix. The top-30 USGPL riders in the USGPL Standings will be invited to compete in the Invitational which will be held at HITS Culpeper during the USGPL Finals on Sunday, September 30.
On Thursday, September 6, competitors will take aim at the top prize in the $25,000 Ariat Grand Prix. On Sunday, September 9, even more prize money will be on the line when HITS Saugerties closes out the season with the $75,000 Footings Unlimited Grand Prix. After the week is over, the field will be set for the USGPL Invitational Grand Prix, with only the $25,000 HITS Wildcard Grand Prix remaining on Friday, September 28 at HITS Culpeper. The $25,000 HITS Wildcard Grand Prix qualifies one final rider who places the highest and is not already qualified for the featured class.
"It's coming down to the wire," said Tony Hitchcock, Sr. Vice President of HITS, Inc. "This time of year is always exciting as everyone is eager to secure their spot for the Invitational. And this year, there's an extra incentive because our final qualifier in Saugerties is a $75,000 Grand Prix."
Grand Prix action is not all that's happening at HITS Saugerties during the final week of competition for the season. Over 250 classes will be offered and a countless number of ribbons will be awarded. Friday night will feature an Exhibitor Party on the patio of the HITS Restaurant. And on Sunday, prior to the Grand Prix, Summer Circuit Awards will be awarded.
With the schedule shift, this year HITS-on-the-Hudson VII falls after the Hampton Classic. "We expect to see some riders who often miss our final week at Saugerties because of the scheduling conflict. So, we are looking forward to a great crowd and a great finish to the season," added Hitchcock.
Following Week VII at HITS-on-the-Hudson will be the long-awaited 2007 Marshall & Sterling League Finals which take place September 13 - 16. Members of the Marshall & Sterling League compete all year for points in order to qualify for this prestigious year-end event. The top-10 riders in each division will be recognized during the Year-End High Point Awards celebration on Friday, September 14 which also includes a special dinner catered by Tavern on the Green Catering and a musical performance by Suzanne Vega.
