SAUGERTIES, NY (August 13, 2007)—HITS Saugerties went to the dogs on Friday, August 11, when exhibitors enjoyed a Canine Affair, an exhibitor party that featured a costume contest for dogs outside on the patio of the HITS Restaurant.
First place was awarded to Chando Farm, which is the home of former Olympians Frank and Mary Chapot. Bazzle and Jerzee dressed up as the Chapot's, complete with matching Gold Medals and inscriptions on their jackets that said "run fast, bark loud."
Misty Morgan and Daria Williams designed the costumes. "The girls were looking forward to the costume contest all week," said Laura Chapot, who is the daughter Frank and Mary Chapot. "They went all out for this."
Bazzle and Jerzee were pinned with a blue ribbon and received a basket full of treats, supplied by HITS' stabling manager and fellow dog enthusiast, Eileen Edwards.
Second place was awarded to Christina Blood who dressed her pooch Milo up as a duck. The yellow ribbon for third place went to Abigail and Madison Brayman
who dressed their dog Stitch up as a garden.
Other costumes ranged from butterflies to prom queens as enthusiastic exhibitors picked the winning costumes based on their applause.
"There is only one thing a horse lover is more crazy about than their horse and that's their dog," said HITS' Senior Vice President Tony Hitchcock. "Plans are already being made to have a Canine Affair be a part of every HITS horse show."
During the summer series of horse shows, exhibitors were treated to
weekly special events, including an Equine Art Gala at New World Home Cooking Co., a karaoke contest presented by Tavern on the Green, and a
Saturday night mixer to celebrate the $75,000 RV Sales of Broward Grand Prix.
