Indio,
CA (March 10, 2006)--HITS, Inc.
is pleased to announce that the Seventh Annual
World of the Horse™ exhibition, presented
by The Desert Sun, KESQ-TV and Time Warner,
will take place on Sunday, March 12 from
noon to 2pm at the HITS Indio
Desert Horse Park on Avenue 52 at Monroe
Street.
The
World of the Horse will offer a host of fun
activities for parents and their children
including a Charro and Escaramuza exhibition
by skilled Mexican horsemen and women,
free pony rides, face painting, clowns,
crafts area, plus educational activities and
career
information. Several breeds and disciplines
will be featured in the special World of
the Horse “corral” just north
of the Grand Prix Tent overlooking the
horse show’s main show jumping ring.
In
addition to the “up close” appearances
of horses in the “corral” there
will be eleven performances in the Grand
Prix Ring beginning at 1:00 PM, immediately
following the Leadline class and a parade
of champions for Circuit Awards. Performances
in the main ring include the Coachella
Charros and Escaramuzzas (Mexican Rodeo
performers),
Tennesee Walking Horse, Fox Trotter,
Arabians, Clydesdales, and Friesians
as well as demonstrations
of Dressage and Reining. The famed “Mane
Event” drill team will perform
and present the colors during the singing
of
the National Anthem.
Following the World of the Horse activities,
the grand finale of show jumping competition
at the Indio Desert Circuit will take
place in the Grand Prix field—The
$150,000 HITS Grand Prix of the Desert.
Top Grand
Prix riders from the U.S. and abroad
will compete for the largest single purse
awarded
over the six weeks of competition at
the Indio Desert Circuit.
The $150,000 HITS Grand
Prix
of the Desert is the next-to-last of
ten qualifying events for the FEI World Cup of
Show
Jumping that
will be held in Kuala Lumpur, April 26-30.
As of Sunday, February 26, Richard Spooner
(the top lifetime money-winner on the
Indio Desert Circuit) is in the lead
with 84
points among riders competing for a slot
on the
West Coast team at the World Cup competition.
Rich Fellers is in second place with
70 points followed by Joie Gatlin with
61
points and
Gaby Salick with 53 points. Because the
winner of the HITS Grand Prix on March
12 will get
20 points for his or her victory, there
is still plenty of room for other riders
to
unseat Richard and the other current
leaders.
Admission to the showgrounds on Saturday
and Sunday is $5 for adults; children 12
and under are free. Admission proceeds benefit
various Coachella Valley charities.
