USHJA Zone 10 Equitation Championship Was Front and Center at National Sunshine Series II

THERMAL, CA (November 18, 2015): Equitation riders from across the west coast made their way to HITS Desert Horse Park in Thermal, California, for the Zone 10 Equitation Championship. Hosted during the National Sunshine Series for the past two years, this unique class gave junior and amateur riders a chance to show off their horsemanship skills in a formal setting. 

The Championship consisted of three phases spanning two days during National Sunshine Series II and included over fences in phase one, a flat in phase two and a medal-type over fences course in phase three. Each rider’s first two scores were averaged together, with the phase three score added, to determine the winner.  

Equitation Championship – 12-14
Grady Lyman, of Rancho Santa Fe, California, and Sinatra’s Ruhm, owned by Kristi Clarkson, received the blue ribbon with a total score of 167.5. Second place was awarded to Seattle, Washington native, Grace Pearson who navigated her own Black Label to a total of 165. Emma Reichow, of Menio Park, California, and her own, Spotify, finished in third with a total of 160.

Equitation Championship – 15-17
Grace Tuton, of Paradise Valley, Arizona, rode Lautento, owned by Nicodemus Farms, to first place with a total score of 162. The runner up, Madeline McFadden of San Clemente, California, piloted her own Leopaldo, to a score of 149. Third place went to Kit Cunningham of Thermal, California, and Estrella, owned by Laurie Cunningham, with a score of 84.

Equitation Championship – 18 and Over
First place was awarded to Stephanie Goodson, of Beverly Hills, California, and her own Poetic, with a total score of 165.5. The reserve champion with a score of 160.5 was Sophie De Selliers, of Seattle, Washington, and Mr. Brando, owned by Gwen McCaw. Laura Owens, of San Francisco, California, received third place on Constantin, owned by Emma Waldfogel, with a score of 157.

Equitation Championship – Ponies
Yarrow Point, Washington resident, Sophie Pelzer, steered Page 6, owned by Norgan, Inc. to a first place finish with a total score of 144.5. Second place was presented to Katalina Rickard, of Sheman Oaks, California, with a score of 142; followed by Stella Wasserman, of Beverly Hills, California, in third with C.E. Providence, owned by Competition Equestrian LLC, with a score of 119.5.
