Thomas G. Struzzieri
Biography
Thomas G. Struzzieri is the President and Chief Executive Officer of HITS, Inc., the largest hunter/jumper horse show management company in the United States. Based in the Village of Saugerties, New York, HITS is a nationwide company producing horse shows in Thermal, California; Ocala, Florida; Tucson, Arizona; Culpeper, Virginia and Saugerties, New York.
Born on Long Island in 1958, Mr. Struzzieri has been in the horse business for most of his life. In the 1970's, he operated Rose View Stables in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he trained |
hunter/jumpers and produced local horse shows. In 1982,e produced his first out-of-state horse show in Gainesville, Florida, thereby launching Horse Shows In The Sun. In January 2006, Mr. Struzzieri entered into a private equity arrangement with Leonard Green & Partners, LP in Los Angeles, California establishing HITS, Inc.
To promote hunter/jumper sports in the U.S. Mr. Struzzieri has been an innovator, developing and offering new classes, leagues and opportunities to compete. In 1991, he founded the Marshall & Sterling League to encourage and enhance the competition level of Children and Adult Hunter and Jumper riders. In 1998, he re-introduced the United States Grand Prix League (USGPL).
In 2004, Mr. Struzzieri opened HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, New York. Designed from the ground up, this state-of-the-art horse show facility marked the accomplishment of a long-held ambition: to create a world-class facility to meet the highest standards of equestrian competition. In 2007, Mr. Struzzieri unveiled his latest horse show venue in Thermal, California–a new 230-acre facility about five miles from the former location in Indio.
Active in the United States Equestrian Federation (formerly USA Equestrian and the American Horse Shows Association), Mr. Struzzieri has served on its Board of Directors and Show Management Committee and has served on the Planning and Executive Committees. Mr. Struzzieri is also a founding member of the United States Hunter/Jumper Association, serving on its Board of Directors, and is Chairman of its Show Management Committee. In addition to the national organizations, he is a member of numerous regional and state horse show associations.
In his community, Mr. Struzzieri is a member of the Board of Trustees of Ulster County Community College and sits on the Board of Directors for the Ulster County Development Corporation. In addition, Mr. Struzzieri is also a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Ulster County and the Business and Community Leaders Advisory Committee of the Institute of Ecosystem Studies. Mr. Struzzieri is a volunteer coach with AYSO soccer and youth football for his children's recreational league teams. Mr. Struzzieri attended Vassar College.
Mr. Struzzieri resides in Saugerties, New York, with his wife, Jane, and their three children, Pia, Samantha and Tommy Z.
