Thomas G. Struzzieri - Biography

Thomas G. Struzzieri is the President and Chief Executive Officer of HITS, Inc., the largest hunter/jumper horse show management company in the United States. Based in the Village of Saugerties, New York, HITS is a nationwide company producing horse shows in Thermal, California; Ocala, Florida; Tucson, Arizona; Culpeper, Virginia and Saugerties, New York.

Born on Long Island in 1958, Mr. Struzzieri has been in the horse business for most of his life. A graduate of Vassar College, in the 1970s, he operated Rose View Stables in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he trained hunter/jumpers and produced local horse shows. In 1982, he produced his first out-of-state horse show in Gainesville, Florida, thereby launching Horse Shows In The Sun.

To promote hunter/jumper sports in the U.S., Mr. Struzzieri has been an innovator, developing and offering new classes, leagues and opportunities to compete. In 1991, he founded the Marshall & Sterling Insurance League to encourage and enhance the competition level of Children and Adult Hunter and Jumper riders. In 1998, he re-introduced the United States Grand Prix League (USGPL).

In 2004, Mr. Struzzieri opened HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, New York. Designed from the ground up, this state-of-the-art horse show facility marked the accomplishment of a long-held ambition: to create a world-class facility to meet the highest standards of equestrian competition. In 2007, Mr. Struzzieri unveiled his latest horse show venue in Thermal, California called HITS Desert Horse Park – a new 230-acre facility about five miles from the former location in Indio.

Beginning in 2010, Mr. Struzzieri made the first steps towards returning serious prize money and attention back to U.S. show jumping with the introduction of the Saugerties $1 Million Grand Prix. Since then, the Saugerties Million has been joined by the Diamond Mills $500,000 and Platinum Performance $250,000 Hunter Prix Finals, coining the last few days of the HITS Saugerties show series as the richest weekend in show jumping. In 2012, Mr. Struzzieri went bi-coastal with $1 million prize purses beginning with the AIG $1 Million Grand Prix in March of 2013 at HITS Desert Horse Park. Just a year later, the Great American $1 Million Grand Prix debuted at HITS Ocala, becoming the third jewel of the HITS Triple Crown of Show Jumping.

Active in the United States Equestrian Federation (formerly USA Equestrian and the American Horse Shows Association), Mr. Struzzieri has served on its Board of Directors and Show Management Committee and has served on the Planning and Executive Committees. Mr. Struzzieri was also a founding member of the United States Hunter/Jumper Association, serving on its Board of Directors, and has served as Chairman of its Show Management Committee. In addition to the national organizations, he is a member of numerous regional and state horse show associations.

In his community, Mr. Struzzieri is a former member of the Board of Trustees of SUNY Ulster County Community College and has sat on the Board of Directors for the Ulster County Development Corporation. In addition, he served on the Kingston Hospital Board and is a volunteer coach with AYSO soccer and youth football for his children's recreational league teams.

Mr. Struzzieri resides in Saugerties, New York, with his wife, Jane, and their three children, Pia, Samantha and Tommy Z.
