USHJA Zone 3 Junior Equitation Finals

The prestigious United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) Zone 3 Junior Equitation Finals will return for the 12th year to HITS Commonwealth Park in Culpeper, Virginia.  The popular finals will be the featured event in the Grand Prix ring on Saturday, August 19, 2017.

ELIGIBILITY - The Finals are open to Junior members of the USHJA who reside in Zone 3, which includes Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina.  Riders can qualify by winning any of the Zone 3 state equitation medals (3’ or 3’6”), including: VHSA Junior and Children's Medal, NCHJA Children's Medal, EJ Haun Memorial Medal, MHSA Hunt Seat Medal Horse, Gittings Horsmanship Medal or by winning a USEF Medal, ASPCA Maclay Medal, or WIHS Medal class in any state or Zone between August 21, 2016 and August 16, 2017.

CLASS SPECIFICATIONS - The Zone 3 Equitation Finals are unique in that riders qualify to compete over fences at one of two heights: 3’ or 3’6,’’ with both heights being judged as a single class.  

The 3’ section is limited to riders who have not competed 3 or more times in any class or division at 3’6” or higher.

The course is a medal-type course consisting of at least 10 fences with at least one combination and two changes of direction.  The top 12 riders from the jumping phase (3’ and 3’6” combined) will return for a flat phase.  Further testing is at the judge’s discretion.  An open scoring system is used. 

TACK / EQUIPMENT - Conventional tack per EQ105. Running or Standing Martingales are permitted.  Change of tack is permissable between phases..

ENTRIES - Complete a Winston National Entry blank using the class number for your height section.

Entry Fee:  $60.00  |  $10.00 Post Entry and $10.00 Scratch Fee

AWARDS & PRIZES - Ribbon winners will receive generously donated prizes.  In past years, ribbon winners have received gift certificates and gift bags from popular tack stores, half-chaps, bridles, and other horse and rider equipment, and a cooler for the blue ribbon winner.

The Uptown Award shall be awarded to the judge’s pick of the Horse most suited to the class.
