HITS Announces Indoor Championships Coming to Syracuse, NY!

HITS is excited to announce the latest addition to its show calendar, the HITS Indoor Championship to be held at the newly built Great New York State Fair Expo Center in Syracuse, New York, October 24-28, 2018.

This show will be part of a developmental series HITS plans to build upon through a grass-roots program that will go hand-in-hand with its Marshall & Sterling Insurance League.

“We started the Marshall & Sterling League in 1991 to fill a void in our sport at the intermediate levels,” said Tom Struzzieri, President and CEO of HITS, Inc. “Our focus was on the Children’s and Adult divisions, and has expanded from there. As equestrian sport continues to evolve, it is clear to me that there are more opportunities to tap into the grass-roots level with the goal of bringing those riders up through the ranks.  As we just saw with so many great athlete stories coming out of the Olympics, you never know where your next Gold Medalist will come from.”

The new Great New York State Fair Expo Center is a state-of-the-art Expo Center and Equestrian facility, and is scheduled to open in summer 2018. It features two indoor competition arenas and two schooling areas, as well as 500 permanent stalls, permanent RV hook-ups, permanent restrooms, permanent food service and ample parking. The main Indoor Arena measures 200’ x 300’ and offers seating for 4,500 spectators.

“This is going to be one of the best indoor equestrian facilities in the country,” stated Struzzieri.  “Ever since the National Horse Show left Madison Square Garden, I have thought about how to replicate the feel and ambience of that event. I believe this new Expo Center will accomplish that, and as this show grows, it will rival the reputation of the “Indoor” horse shows both past and present.”

In its first year, the HITS Indoor Championship will feature Hunter and Equitation Classes for Junior and Amateur riders at the Beginner and Intermediate levels, focusing on fence heights from 2’ to 3’6". “We are really looking to reach beyond the normal scope of our horse shows and invite and encourage a new group of riders to participate,” Struzzieri continued. “It has always been our philosophy to offer unique and diverse classes and championships for riders of all levels. These riders are the future of our sport – what better way to find them than to offer a World-Class event that caters just to them.”
The Great New York State Fair Expo Center is being touted as the largest events facility north of New York City and between Boston and Cleveland. A press release announcing the construction of the facility as well as artist renderings are available here.
