HITS introduces Joanna Zeller Quentin as the 2015 HITS Thermal program cover artist

Thermal, California (January 13, 2015): HITS, Inc. is pleased to introduce Joanna Zeller Quentin as the cover artist for its 2015 HITS Desert Circuit Official Show Program.

Quentin, of Dallas, Texas, blends a rider’s knowledge of anatomy, tack, and equine behavior with an artist’s understanding of paint and ink to create bold, accurate and colorful equine art in a variety of mediums. Her cover painting, “Rollback” was inspired while schooling rollbacks with her own jumper, Frankie.

“Being awarded the HITS Thermal cover for the second year in a row – and the third time since 2012 – is such an incredible honor,” said Quentin. “I am thrilled to return to HITS Thermal and be a part of the premier equestrian circuit in the California desert.”

Each year, HITS accepts submissions by artists for its HITS Thermal Desert Circuit, HITS Ocala Winter Circuit, and HITS Saugerties Show Series program covers. The HITS Art Department chooses one piece for each cover. Selected artists are then invited to show their work at the circuit.

“Quentin is great to work with; she creates amazing, colorful works of art,” said HITS Art Director Leslie Phillips.

Quentin said her cover painting, “Rollback,” went through several incarnations.

“It was originally conceived as an ink wash/charcoal piece, but something didn't click with it, and it sat in my studio for over a year. Once I pulled it out and revisited the painting, it seemed to demand color, so I worked back into it with oils. It stayed unfinished again for several months until I changed the name and added the background element – a sweeping rollback turn, which was inspired after schooling rollbacks one day with my own jumper. A few more brushstrokes to convey the action, flying dirt, and excitement of the tight turn, and the piece was finally finished,” she said.

Quentin will be at HITS Desert Horse Park March 11-15 with large and small original art and prints, and is available for commissioned portraiture, paintings, farm logos, and illustrations. For more information, visit: www.moosepantsstudio.com.

The artist deadline for the 2015 HITS Saugerties show season is April 10. For information, email Leslie@HitsShows.com.
