How to Qualify:
 
Rider Rankings will be calculated based on points earned by the horse/rider combination.
 
A rider's points will count only after the rider has competed in at least five (5) Devoucoux Hunter Prix Qualifying Classes on any horse or horses.
 
The rider may compete at any site or combination of sites in order to satisfy the minimum Qualifying Class requirement.
 
Qualifying Classes will be held at HITS Thermal, HITS Ocala, HITS Arizona, HITS Saugerties, and HITS Culpeper.
     
Additional Qualifying Specifications:
Points will be calculated by horse/rider combination. It will be the rider's top horse that will determine the rider's final ranking.
In the event tha't two or more riders are qualified for the final qualifying position, all those tied will qualify.
If a qualified rider declines, the next rider in the standings will be invited until all 75 slots are filled.
The top 5 riders out of HITS Thermal will automatically qualify, regardless of their final ranking. Riders must have met the qualifying criteria.
The rider may ride only one (1) horse in the Finals, but may ride any horse of his/her choice.
The last Qualifying Class counting toward rider rankings will be at HITS-on-the- Hudson VII, August 29 – September 2, 2012. Note: The Wild Card class held at HITS-on-the-Hudson VII will count as both a Qualifier and the Wild Card.
     
Calculation of Points:
The number of points awarded will be based on a combination of placing and the number of competitors in the class.
Points will be awarded 1-12 on the following basis: 30, 20, 14, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Points will be added to the number of competitors in the first round.
    Example: In a class with 25 entries:
First receives 30 + 25 = 55  
Second receives 20 + 25 = 45  
Third receives 14 + 25 = 39, and so on  
     
Qualifying Class Conditions and Specifications:

Open to all. A rider is not limited to the number of horses he/she may ride in Qualifying Classes. See prize list for additional specifications. Horses will not be required to jog, but must be serviceably sound. To be judged on style and performance. To be scored under the open numerical judging system. Fences 3'3”, spreads not to exceed fence height. The First round to be over a Classic-type course of 8-12 fences. The top 12 will return to jump a Second round in reverse order of their scores from the first round. The Second round may include handy-type elements such as roll-backs and hand galloping a fence, but bonus points will not be awarded. Scores will be added to determine the winners. In the case of a tie for first place only, the judge(s) will decide. All other places shall remain tied.

 

Hunter Prix Final Conditions and Specifications:

The Hunter Prix Final will be held over three days. Horses will not be required to jog, but must be serviceably sound. To be judged on style and performance. To be judged under the open numerical judging system. Fences 3'3”, spreads not to exceed fence height.
The First round will take place on Friday; the Second round will take place on Saturday. To be scored by a panel of at least 2 judges. The First round shall be over a Classic-type course of 12-16 fences. All who compete in the First round will be eligible to return for the Second round in reverse order of their scores from the First round. Horses eliminated in the First round will return with a score of zero (0). In the case of ties, the order of those tied will be drawn. The Second round shall be over a course of 10-12 fences and may include handy-type elements. Scores from both rounds will be added to determine the top 25, and any tied at 25 th , to return for the Third round on Sunday. The order for the Third round will be reverse order of total scores from the First and Second rounds. In the case of ties, the Second round score will determine the order of those tied. Scores will not carry over to the Third round.
 
The Third and Fourth rounds will take place Sunday morning, prior to the Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix. To be scored by 3 panels of judges. One panel will be designated as the tie-breaking panel. The Third round shall be over a course of approximately 12 fences and will include handy-type elements. Scores will be added to determine the top 4 to return for the Fourth round. The Fourth round shall be over a shortened course of 6-8 fences and will include handy-type elements. Scores will be added to determine the winners. In the case of a tie for first place, there will be a tie-breaking round over a shortened course. In the case of a tie for any other place, the designated tie-breaking panel of judges shall break the tie.
Order of Go:

The order will be reverse order of the Final Standings. The Wild Card will go First. The five discretionary spots will be placed in the next five slots, their order to be drawn, followed by any additional discretionary spots, order to be drawn.
